Sky’s The Limit
A full field of 22 lined up for the PJ Staffing Group Apprentice Handicap at York on Friday, October 10, round eight of the series, supported by White Rose Saddlery.
Good ground attracted a strong field for the seven-furlong race, which was the last race of the first day of the final meeting on the Knavesmire.
After breaking from the stalls, the riders chose their lines and tended to move towards the far rail. Ziggy’s Condor, ridden by Ethan Tindall was just about the leader after half a furlong, with a very tightly packed field around them.
Paws For Thought and Charlie Maggs were close by in second, with a hard pulling Native Instinct, partnered by Archie Young behind Ziggy’s Condor and top weight, Daring Legend and Tom Kiely-Marshall tracking them on the inside.
Coming out of the turn into the straight, Enola Grey was running close for last year’s series winner William Pyle, but by the halfway point, 15 lengths covered the field.
Into the final two furlongs, Vixey and Aiden Brookes who had been in the middle of the pack started to weave their way through and several horses from the back started to make a move. Candonomore ridden by Jake Dickson made a strong run and Mohammed Tabti asked Havanna Prince to give his all down the wide outside.
Sky Advocate hit the front with half a furlong to go for Jack Callan to win comfortably by a length and three quarters, with a blanket covering Candonomore, Vixey, Ziggy’s Condor and Havana Prince.
The race has actioned some changes on the leaderboard, but Mason Paetel remains at the top with 48 points, Archie Young in second with 32 points and Aiden Brookes moves up to third with 24 points.
The next round follows quickly at Catterick on Saturday 18th October.
