Coming in quick succession, the second of two Go Racing In Yorkshire Future Stars Apprentice Races, supported by White Rose Saddlery, took place in June, this time at Beverley Racecourse.
Run over the minimum distance of 5 furlongs on good to firm ground, six runners lined up for the race, after the withdrawal of Oasis Cover at the start.
Brain Freeze was a little awkward out of the stalls, putting paid to her chances, but Jack Rabbit Slims, partnered by Jack Nicholls were quickly away and lead the field, with Tanaka and Shay Farmer just behind on his inside. The field were tightly bunched with Dabbling under Tom Kiely-Marshall and Power Of Chora for Alfie Redman close in behind.
By the two-furlong pole, the positions of the front three hadn’t changed, but Sparkling Wine and Ethan Tindall had moved up into fourth place, with Brain Freeze wider out and Power Of Chora had dropped back to just last.
Jack Rabbit Slims and Tanaka were locked in battle with Power Of Chora looking for a gap to make a challenge, but it came to late. Tanaka just got ahead of Jack Rabbit Slims, but the latter battled back and the two were nearly in unison over the line. It all came down to the head bob.
Tanaka came out on top by a nose to Jack Rabbit Slims, with Power Of Chora a length and a half further back in third.
Winning jockey, Shay Farmer, has already picked up some points along the way and winning this race propelled him to the top of the leaderboard, where he now sits with 28 points. Cian Horgan has been demoted to second with 24 points and Ethan Tindall is third with 22 points.
The next race takes place at Redcar on Wednesday 29th July.
