The latest round of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Future Stars Apprentice Series took place at Redcar on Wednesday, July 29, which was part of an all-apprentice card.

The success of last year’s trial saw the racecard repeated, giving apprentices the opportunity to shine on their own stage and provided the perfect platform for the latest race in our series.

Seven horses were declared for the mile race on good to firm ground.

Thats My Boy Luke was slightly slower away than the rest of the field but quickly made up ground, while Penny Ghent, ridden by Rhys Elliott took the lead.  Mavetheforcebewivu sat in second with That’s My Boy Luke and Pisanello sat on the wide outside in fourth.

The group raced tightly together down the centre of the course.  There was little change in the order by the half-way point, although Penny Ghent had extended her lead to a couple of lengths.  Thats My Boy Luke went in pursuit and the race started to heat up.

In the final two furlongs, Penny Ghent was still the one to catch, but Conor Whiteley started to ask for more effort from Pisanello on the wide outside.  She went on to win by a comfortable two and three-quarter lengths from Tees George, who ran on from the rear under Jack Nicholls and Penny Ghent held on for third, only beaten a neck.

This win puts Conor back in front with 42 points, 14 points ahead of Shay Farmer in second and Rhys Elliott sits in third with 27 points.

The next race takes place at Thirsk on Friday, 7^th August.
