Twelve horses went to post for the September renewal of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Future Stars Apprentice Series race, supported by White Rose Saddlery, at Pontefract on Thursday, October 17.  This round was a sprint race, run over six furlongs on good ground.

From the start, Ideal Guest, ridden by Tom Kiely- Marshall was quick to track across to the rails from his wide draw and shared the lead with Hares Bredth, partnered by Jake Dickson and Ingleby Archie, under Matthew Lloyd Slater.

About eight lengths covered the field at the halfway point, where Ingleby Archie had taken up the running from Ideal Guest.  Good Karma and Joe Bradnam sat in third on the rail with Hares Bredth on their outside.

As the pack turned out of the bend with quarter of a mile to run, Charlie Tucker asked for an effort from Irish Nectar.  The pair were following Fiscal Policy ridden by Harry Vigors and as the jockeys all started to ride for home, Ingleby Archie came of the rail still at the head of affairs.

Inside the final furlong, Fiscal Policy rallied, along with Good Karma and the pair were locked in battle to the line, when a very late challenge came from  Alpha Magic and Cian Horgan, but Fiscal Policy just held on.

Having earned points from being placed in four other races in the series, this win takes Harry into third place on the leader board with 37 points.  Cian Horgan’s second placing in the race, means he retains his position in second place with 42 points, just six points behind Conor Whiteley, who didn’t have a ride in Pontefract’s race.
