EASTERBY EYES SPRINT PRIZE AT YORK
Yorkshire trainer Tim Easterby has plenty of faith in Red Spells Danger, a leading contender for the Churchill Tyres Supporting Macmillan Sprint at York this Saturday.
The Cotai Glory gelding has proved a revelation since he was dropped in trip to six furlongs last month by Easterby.
Red Spells Danger powered to an eight-and-half-length win in a restricted maiden at Ripon and duly followed up with a four-length victory on his handicap bow at Hamilton.
Now Easterby has sights set on a sixth success in York’s £125,000 sprint for upwardly mobile three-year-olds.
He has previously won the valuable speedsters contest with Artie (2002), Dazzling Bay (2003), Body And Soul (2013), See The Sun (2014) and Golden Apollo (2017).
“I made a right mess with him – I was trying to make him get seven furlongs, I don’t know why,” said Easterby about Red Spells Danger.
“He is a very good horse. Whatever beats him will win, I think.
“The ground won’t matter to him. He’s very adaptable, he’ll go on any ground.”
Habton Grange-based Easterby will be double-handed in the race as Go Vince Go also features among the full field of 22 declarations.
The son of Invincible Army has a strong piece of course form – albeit over five furlongs – as he won the Parsonage Hotel and Cloisters Spa Nursery last October.
Go Vince Go has yet to win this season, although showed up well last month at Hamilton where he made the frame on his penultimate start.
Easterby added: “Go Vince Go is a very decent horse. He seems to like a little bit of cut in the ground. He ran a good race at Hamilton and I think he’d run very well.”
Saturday marks the 55th Macmillan Charity Raceday at York. The first race is scheduled for 1.50pm, when nine go to post for the Queen Mother’s Cup Handicap (for female amateur jockeys).
