Bollin Neil On Song At Catterick
It was an early start for racegoers at Catterick, who hosted the penultimate round of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Future Stars Apprentice Series, supported by White Rose Saddlery.
A divided race on their William Hill Catterick Dash card, meant that the first race was moved forward to 10.30am, so as not to clash with Champions Day at Ascot.
The day started with the apprentice race and six runners had been declared for the 1m6f contest which was run on good ground.
Given the small field and length of the race, the runners were pretty tight from the start, with Bollin Neil and Jake Dickson taking them along at a strong pace. Kitsune Power, ridden by Cian Horgan sat in second and Trapper John under Elizabeth Gale on the inside in third. Arcitc Fox and Kokinelli made up fourth and fifth and the hard pulling Wasthatok was anchored in rear by Rhys Elliott.
There was no change in the order as the field passed the winning post for the first time, but as they came out of the bend, Wasthatok, who was still keen, passed Kokinelli.
Running up the far side, Bollin Neil was happy bowling in front, in control of the race and Trapper John just edged into second ahead of Kitsune Power.
There was still no change in the order as they rounded the home bend for the final time, with Bollin Neil, hugging the rail and looking very comfortable. Elizabeth Gale got to work on Trapper John, alongside Arctic Fox, but the leader never looked in danger.
Bollin Neil was as gutsy as ever on his favourite track and was never headed, winning easily by half a length, from Trapper John, making it an eighth course win for the favourite.
Jake’s 18 points for the win take him into a clear second, with a total of 38 points, only 10 points behind Mason Paetel and a win in the final at Doncaster would put him in the lead. Archie Young sits in third on 32 points and is the only other danger to Mason.
The final takes place at Doncaster on Saturday, November 8.
