Yorkshire Children’s Charity Raceday at Pontefract Racecourse
Racing with Purpose: Why the Yorkshire Race Day means so much to Yorkshire Children’s Charity
By Bridget Milner-Moore
On Tuesday 2nd June, we’ll be bringing something really special to Pontefract Racecourse. The Yorkshire Children’s Charity Race Day isn’t just another date in the calendar, it’s a day that feels incredibly personal to me.
I’ve been part of Yorkshire Children’s Charity since it was founded, and I officially joined the team as Charity Development Manager last September. Alongside that, racing has always been a huge part of my life. Horses have been around me for as long as I can remember, and with family and close friends in the industry, I’ve grown up with a real love for it, especially here in Yorkshire.
Bringing these two worlds together felt like a natural fit. That’s really where the idea for this Race Day came from, combining something I care deeply about with a cause I believe in wholeheartedly.
The day itself is about creating a brilliant experience for everyone who joins us. From 11am, guests will be welcomed with a champagne reception, followed by a relaxed Yorkshire-inspired buffet, dessert and a cheeseboard, all in our dedicated charity suite. One of my favourite parts of the space is the private balcony overlooking the course, there’s nothing quite like watching the races from there, surrounded by people who are all there for the same reason.
But beyond the food, the racing and the chance to get dressed up, what really matters is the impact behind it.
At Yorkshire Children’s Charity, we work with children and young people across the region who are facing real challenges, whether that’s poverty, illness or disability. Our focus is simple: removing barriers and creating opportunities. That might mean providing a bed for a child who doesn’t have one, funding mobility equipment, or supporting schools with resources that make a genuine difference day to day.
Every event we run helps make that happen, and this Race Day is no different. Every ticket sold, every partnership, every conversation on the day contributes to that wider mission.
For me, it’s also about what this could become. Looking ahead, I’d love to build on this connection with the racing world and create opportunities for the children we support to visit racing yards, to experience something completely new, and to feel inspired by it. That’s the kind of impact that goes beyond a single day.
We’ve already had incredible support from partners, sponsors and the racing community, and that’s what makes days like this possible. It really is a collective effort.
So yes, it’s a day at the races. But it’s also a chance to bring people together, to share something enjoyable, and to be part of something bigger.
If you’d like to be part of the day, whether by joining us or exploring sponsorship opportunities, you can book your tickets via here or get in touch with me directly at bridget.milner-moore@yorkshirechildrenscharity.org
If you’re joining us, thank you. And if you’re thinking about it, I’d love to see you there.
